Yesterday, we went there and I got my favorite bagel, cranberry. The bagel was so good that I almost didn't need the cream cheese. The ambiance is not the greatest and it is partly because of it's location. It's right on Hwy 111 and if you are not careful, you might drive right by it. This place needs to be spruced up a bit.

Picked up a Multi-Grain Bagel (1.10) yesterday to test it out. (With Cream Cheese (1.15 extra)) Delicious! Passes the official New York Bagel Testing Assessment. Free easy parking in front. Sit outside or inside. Watch the 111 traffic go by. Atmosphere--not welcoming. Maybe put a big screen TV in there or music to pump it up--it needs some juice! (Not the OJ kind.)

My friend took me to this local shop that I probably would have never found on my own. She raved that every time she and her husband came to Palm Desert they stopped her for bagels. Her husband is a carb lover and knows his bread so I had to give this place a try. I ordered the lox sandwich on a super jalapeno bagel. The ratio of cream cheese, lox, and veggies was perfect! The bagel has a great texture..crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. We got here later in the morning, around 9:30, and it was pretty dead. I am sure it is a different story on the weekends. A great inexpensive breakfast or lunch spot if you are in the area.

I ordered a toasted garlic bialy with garlic cream cheese but it was served a bit cold. I returned it and asked for it to be heated and the lady told me she would have to make me a new one. I told her tojust put it in the microwave for 15 seconds and it was just perfectly warm.

Friendly service, great food and relaxing environment to catch up with friends. I'm picky about where I go, but always enjoy NYB&D! Next time I'm trying the bagel sandwich w sausage and the chicken cornbread salad....!

  • Moxie Y.

Super expensive .... 10 bucks for a bagel sandwich & 6 for a breakfast bagel. ONLY other grip besides $$$$ is the one fountain refill for your drink .... I never need more than one refill but come on, your already jacking up the prices for the bagel spread. otherwise the food was delicious. Everything tastes fresh, bagel choices are a fun way to create your own paradise in your mouth. Small patio, dog friendly. small area inside to eat too ... Very casual setting for small 2-3 ppl groups or on the go.

Fast, clean... And delicious! I'm a local and I highly recommend this place if you want something with bagels. You won't be disappointed, but check the hours as they are limited during the summer.

  • Maria L.

Sesame NY bagel w/cream cheese was perfect. NY bagels are solid bread this passes the test. Store is nice clean and service is good. Highly recommend

The bagel's in this place are epic! I had the Lox Sandwich which was delicious and wasn't overpowered by too much red onion. The price are fantastic and they have a lot of great bagels to chose from.

  • Charles D.

I live in Palm Springs so NY Bagel is a bit far but they have the best bagels in the desert. Go early for best selection. Also their salt bagel is a bit too salty, and I love salt.

While preparing for my wedding in La Quinta a few weeks ago, I wanted to treat all the people helping us get ready for our day by picking up some bagels, muffins, spreads and coffee. Trying to find a place in the area that sold loose bagels was quite a feat. I found a few places that wanted to sell me bagel sandwiches, but not loose bagels. Finally, I found this place which was as close to a NYC bagel shop as I could expect to find. The girls that worked there were nice. It was a hustle and bustle kind of place. Very fast paced, but professional and friendly. I bought a bakers dozen, 2 spreads and a few muffins. They didn't have bulk coffee though. You could only buy a cup a a time in there. I needed something like a ten-cup box like they sell in Dunkin Donut, but no such luck. The bagels and muffins were really good. they were fresh and had that 'chew' that makes a good bagel, good. I would absolutely go back if I lived in that area.

I ordered the lox sandwich on and onion bagel with the Tijuana hot cream cheese and it was divine! I also added capers!! Yum!!! I have to admit that $10 a sand which is kind of pushing it but you won't find a cheaper lox sandwhich in the valley. Unfortunately my only complain would be their closing hours. I got there around 3:40 so it was just a few minutes before they closed, other than that it was great!! The girl was really helpful too! Didn't catch her name!

    (5)
  • Scott O.

Don't bother! $11 for a Lox bagel with hardly any Lox! The bagel WAS fresh, but there was only 1 small piece of Lox hidden by way too much cream cheese. I asked the Server to have more than just the one thin slice of Lox and she replied "Sorry, it's portion controlled, we weigh it". Go to Einstein's up the road instead, where you actually get your money's worth.

  • Marauder M.

The food was average at best, they advertised grilled chicken but appeared baked and dry. My Cesar salad was made with iceberg lettuce. Servings are either small or the items are over priced for their size, I guess you get the NY pricing as well. They should turn up the air conditioner too.

    (2)
  • Christi W.

We did not enjoy this bagel shop. We found the cream cheese to be very thin, almost soupy and the bagels were cold even after toasting. We threw most of the food away and grabbed something else for breakfast right after. Disappointing experience. Nothing tasted fresh.

    (2)
  • Stacey Z.

Great bagel shop! -They have my favorite SALT bagels here! -The breakfast bagel with bacon & egg = very good. -The smoothies are made with fresh fruit and are a great, healthy way to start your day. -They open at 6 AM. PERFECT for all the early risers, like myself. -Conveniently located on the 111 (like most of the establishments in the desert).

  • Kim H.

This is called New York Bagel! Why this is listed as Manhattan bagel is a mystery to me. Please make sure you go to NY Bagel

    (4)
  • John S.

Pretty pricey for a bagel sandwich! $10 for just a sandwich and add a drink and chips and you're looking at over $12! Wow... And then you only get 1 refill when dining in?! What's that about? Pretty soon you'd think they'd start charging for napkins.. The food was okay, bagel was sort of chewy. You'd think with all the options to eat for lunch that you could find somewhere more reasonable and tastier for your money.

  • Angel W.

The food is completely delicious. I love their veggie garden sandwich because I don't eat meat. My favorite by far is their homemade tuna salad. A close second is the egg salad. - I also ask for a sample of new cream cheese-Spinach & Artichoke today, it is SO GOOD, and just that little sample totally satisfy's my craving. They have great service and the staff are super friendly. They let us try what we wanted and were patient with us without trying to rush us through. PS, I like their new painted color YELLOW, the place is bright and clean, and always fresh flowers around, pretty cool.

  • Hector H.

I actually love this location I just don't know what happened .My bagel was hard and it was a cheese bagel and the top cover for my coffee just didn't fit the cup .and I had to walk a block, made me regret going there. But my friends sandwich looked really good, maybe next .

    (3)
  • Paul O.

Just as a suggestion you should get rid of those dispenser coffee urns. The coffee is never hot. It's really a shame since your Bagels are so good. We have been coming to NY bagel for 4 years and can never appreciate the Luke warm coffee.

    (3)
  • Mark W.

My review is for the bagels only (sandwich prices are high and have not tried). The bagels are some of the better ones that I have found and certainly the best in the valley. I like them firmer and crunchy and most times that is the case, however some days they seem softer. Definitely worth a try if you are in the mood for a bagel

    (4)
  • Joe N.

Pretty good bagels and service....but have to bring your own spoon to stir tea and an orange traffic cone for sharp elevation change in patio

    (4)
  • Bigaldeville A.

The food is always good. I always get to breakfast sandwich awesome.

    (4)
  • Chris S.

Just spent $14 for a sandwich and coke and they only allow one refill on their fountain machine. Can't stand being nickel'd and dime'd. . Also water on sink for their bathroom didn't work. I won't have to worry about that again since I'm not coming back!

  • Lalo R.

Open past 4pm......... Got there late in the day so assortment was limited but of what I did get everything was very good Nice chewy texture Bagels on the bigger side... rye and cinnamon raisin were my two favorite. Cream cheese was very good, scallion version was not all that.. prefer my scallions finely chopped and not the big chunks they had at this location.. Saw a big menu for sandwiches but i didn't get one this time... Next time I will get here early to taste all the varieties...

  • Stu G.

On vacation and had lunch there yesterday. If you're looking for a new York style bagel deli you may be disappointed. They bake their own water bagels which we found to be overly chewy. We were told that the original owner had sold the place and moved back to New York. This may explain why most of the better reviews are from 2011 to 2013. Limited menu and pricey.

    (1)
  • Sharon K.

Absolutely the worst tasteless bagel I have ever had. And they can't even get an order straight. Stay away

    (1)
  • Vanessa E.

Just made a disappointing stop at New York Bagel and Deli. The bagels are small and pricey, the cream cheese even pricier. What really irked me was the charge for slicing my bagels. I will not be returning.

    (1)
  • Charley C.

Just coming through town, Just looking for my usual pumpernickel bagel. What a quest that can be. Oh well I had to settle for a sesame bagel. sigh... the bagel was good fresh and just what a bagel should be. She had a bagel breakfast sandwich and it was fresh and very good. For a nice bagel, I would go back, but ahhhh... where is my pumpernickel... Manhattan I guess!

    (4)
  • Mary A. L.

Born and lived in NYC most of my life I can say these bagels are not authentic. Chewy and needed to be toasted to be the right consistency. Not Russ Daughter's of Houston Street quality or close. ñ

    (2)
  • Teresa B.

Great bagels, muffins, coffee. Kids loved their breakfast sandwiches and the bagels are reminiscent of NY. Clean and good service.

    (4)
  • Eric F.

Very fresh bagels ranging from asiago to onion and the accompanying cream cheese spreads are delicious. Would recommend to any and all bagel fans in the desert.

  • Angela M.

So I am from New York, now in LA, and in search of a great bagel (I know, I know Sams...but don't get me started, see: my review). Anyway, who knew I'd have to travel to Indian Wells for one of the best (actually the best) bagels I have had on the West coast? Not only that, these ladies are so sweet and kind and the shop is clean and cheery. If I loved driving in 2 hours into heat and traffic I'd go there every day. But, for now, I'll just dream until I go back.

    (5)
  • Gerry W.

3 years later and this place still rocks! Lily, the owner, is extremely caring and fun. If you want a delicious bagel this is the place. I also recommend the chocolate muffin when you want to treat yourself!

    (5)
  • Christian A.

    Good patio.. Great location

    (3)
  • Chris R.

Not authentic...bagels are disappointing. You're supposed to boil and then bake the bagels and it doesn't taste that you did it right

    (2)
  • Elizabeth T.

I'm surprised this place has the reviews it has. Our whole wheat bagels were bland, the lox cream cheese is pretty much just cream cheese with one or two tiny flecks of salmon, and everything is over priced. Also, everything inside the shop is printed in comic sans. They have no fruit or anything to get as a side. The service was apathetic at best. My friends and I ended up going to 7-11 across the street to get more food to fill up.

    (2)
  • Tracy E.

Not a bad place, easy to miss though if you don't know where it is at. I had an everything bagel with garlic herb spread. The bagel was soft and chewy. The flavor was good but they over salted it. The garlic herb spread was some of the best I've every had. I highly recommend this place to anyone searching for a good bagel.

  • Deirdre K.

The best NY bagels I have had in Southern CA. We were staying in Rancho Mirage and needed some breakfast. I pulled up a few bagel places close by and decided on this one... So glad I did!!! We ordered a dozen bagels and two tubs of cream cheese. Haven't had a true Bially's bagel since going back to visit NY! And the cream cheese? Real, homemade veggie cream cheese just like the true bagel shops back East.. The only reasons for the 4 stars instead of the 5 are it is a bit pricey and also I have never been to a bagel place that doesn't do a baker's dozen...... How about opening one of these in Temecula?

    (4)
  • Sandy K.

I came in to avoid the heat and grab some lunch during a weekday. All the bagels looked so yummy and fresh. The place is fairly small but comfortable and clean. I was going to order the roast beef but they were out so I tried the Pastrami sandwich combo with potato salad, chips and a drink. The bread tasted like a bagel but softer and was delish. Overall a satisfying lunch and a good place to hang out and got some work done on my laptop. I'll be back to try their breakfast for sure!

    (4)
  • Merle A.

Bagels are tasty! They know how to do it. It is easy to get in and out, so one of your easier better places to have a casual breakfast and lunch.

    (4)
  • Lou R.

Pricey but tasty Triibeca turkey sandwich, come early or your bread choice will be narrowed to what no one else wanted. Edit: The Tribeca on a toasted Asiago roll, total addiction.

    (3)
  • Melissa G.

Fresh bagels, large assortment, and indoor and outdoor seating.

    (4)
  • Jennifer V.

Got the bacon egg and cheese on a jalapeño bagel. The bagel was yummy but the rest was just ok. The service was poor. The lady at the counter didn't greet us and when we ordered she didn't even smile. Thumbs down for service.

  • Cherie C.

So good! Best bagel I've ever had in California. We stopped in to get breakfast before the long drive home and were so impressed that we brought home a dozen bagels. Like a good bagel shop should, they made sure to pack our onion and garlic bagels separate from the rest. We also got freezer bags with our order to so we could save these precious rings for later. They had all the flavors I like: pumpernickel, egg, sourdough (very California but very delicious), sesame. We savored our bagels back home, and can't wait until our move to Coachella Valley when we can enjoy this place again.

LOVE their food!! my fav is the empire!= Sandwich on a cheddar roll. Very good! Service is good!

    (5)
  • Leslie K.

I ordered a breakfast bagel for lunch it was either sitting for hours not at the correct temperature or old . Regardless I have had the worst case of food poisoning ever. I have never complained about a restaurant before but I don't want this to happen to anyone else .

    (1)
  • S M.

Great quick stop for breakfast. Lots of bagel selection. Didn't pick up on any New York accents, but customers as well as employees had the New York "whatta ya have" attitude. I dug it.

    (4)
  • Kristy O.

Bagel was good but $10.00 for a bagel veggie sandwich? No, not worth it. They have inside and outside seating which is nice. I think I caught the employee on a bad day or it was the end of her shift. Next time I will just settle for a bagel with cream cheese. 3/21/13

    (3)
  • Matt H.

Very good, inexpensive food and good service. Not a lot of inside seating which makes going with a large group tricky. I would definitely have breakfast (or lunch) there again. I wish I had bought a few of the super jalapeño bagels to bring home with me.

    (4)
  • Dan C.

Thanks to Yelp! we found this nice little place tucked away on a desert strip mall (I think that's what you would call it). We bought some lox bagel sandwiches to go and enjoyed them later at the Indian Wells Tennis tournament. Very yummy and if I'm in the area again I will make sure to stop by for a morning bite.

    (4)
  • Julia B.

A great place to grab a quick breakfast in the desert. Good variety of bagels and lots of different types of cream cheese. I love their Tijuana Hot cream cheese. I wish they had a few different beverage options, but overall a great place to grab a casual breakfast.

    (4)
  • Spencer B.

Dropped by for a bagel and lox this morning. The place was hopping. There were 9 people ahead of us, and a whole bunch of people waiting for bagels. Many of the tables were taken. I was impressed with how quickly the line went down, and how quickly we got our bagels. These guys really make this flow. The bagels are authentic, and taste great. They are worth the drive if you are not too close.

    (4)
  • Shouka S.

I'm a huge bagel lover. And this place is by far the best bagel place I've ever been to. My parents and I were starving and thanks to Yelp I found this place near our hotels. The bagels taste just like the ones in NY. We got a huge bag of bagels to take home with us as well. Note: If you order the egg with cream cheese bagel to be careful, it's super slippery!

    (5)
  • K J.

Best deli in the desert - awesome onion rings, club sandwich, chili and service. Spotless, friendly and wonderfully designed. Welcome, Welcome to Palm Desert

    (5)
  • Anthony L.

I found this place on Yelp and I am so glad I found this place! I walked in and was greeted with a friendly smile from Ray behind the counter. This place was busy but the service was efficient and quick. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with a super jalapeno bagel and the bagel was fresh and delicious and the coffee was hot and fresh. Great place!

    (5)
  • Danee A.

been going here for years such a convenient place, fresh bagels, my fave is the chocolate chip! great prices cant beat it

    (5)
  • Jen M.

Best bagels in the desert. I have gone to the three bagel shops in palm desert and NONE compare to NY bagel. I like their Cranberry bagel with plain cream cheese. So delicious! I would recommend them to anyone wanting a quick breakfast! They are very friendly and quick. There is very minimal seating inside, but two outdoor patios, both covered. I am not a huge fan of the "breakfast" sandwiches, only because of the microwaved toppings i.e. eggs, bacon, etc.(even though they are tastier than Mcky d's..I am just not a fan of "instant" food like that)

We were staying at a resort in Rancho Mirage, but wanted to have some bagels. Now, being from NJ, I am always skeptical about bagels! However, the "New York" was inviting, along with the fact that it came highly recommended on YELP. So ... we got in the car and drove, with fingers crossed. The kids wanted chocolate chip with cream cheese (delish), chocolate chip with butter, and blueberry with strawberry cream cheese (my daughter said, "Mom, can you make this at home???). We wanted sandwiches (which, I have to mention all have NY names ... Empire State, Ellis Island, Time Square, Tribeca Turkey, and more! I ordered the Tribeca Turkey (turkey breast, mild chipotle mayo (DELISH), red onion and lettuce ... HIGHLY RECOMMEND. My hubby had the Time Square (ham, swiss, lettuce, tomato, onion and mustard (he woofed it down). All the sandwiches are served with a pickle and potato salad. You can also have a bialy (if you don't know what that is ... GOOGLE it), corned beef, pastrami, or even a veggie sandwich (roasted peppers, lettuce, onion, cucumbers, veggie cream cheese and mild chipotle mayo ... that's the one I am going to try next). There is a LARGE selection of bagels to choose from, too! My only negative is that it is in a strip mall that is hard to get into. So we had to drive around the block and park in the back. NJ CHICK says, "Mangia!"

    (4)
  • Sofia T.

nothing like the NYC bagels I know... somewhat dry and thin. With the name "New York" and the four and five stars from yelpers, I expected better--yeah, this is the desert... But ya got a have high hopes. :)

    (2)
  • Pamela R.

The bagel was OK, nothing to write home about. The cream cheese was a bit runny. I've had better bagels at Einstein. I had the Greek Salad, and that too was OK. This place didn't wow me like it did the other Yelpers.

    (3)
  • Scott W.

Best west coast bagel. For all the people who claim it's the special NYC water, I say that if you actually make bagels the right way, they taste better. These aren't rolls with holes like at most bagel places nowadays. They boil them and add all the right toppings and ingredients. I didn't expect to find a bagel this good in the desert.

    (5)
  • Q L.

Good bagels, fast and friendly service. Parking in the front or the back. I get two bagels in the morning and save one for lunch.

    (5)
  • Amy C.

We are bagel people- we loves bagels for breakfast! This place is not to disappoint! We stumbled upon this one as we were looking for a quick breakfast during our stay in Indian Wells and liked it so much we ended up coming 2 days in a row! The Tijuana heat cream cheese is awesome! They also make one hell of a Bialy!

    (5)
  • Elizabeth C.

Had the Off-Broadway Bagel Sandwich (turkey + scallion cream cheese) and was so impressed; I'm craving it now just thinking about it! The person working there was very nice -- she let us add lettuce, tomato, and red onion for free since it seemed a bit plain by itself. She also recommended that we get it on the bagel roll since it's bigger and therefore better for a sandwich. I honestly can't comment much on the taste/freshness of the bagel since there was so much stuff on it, I didn't really taste it but it was good enough not to take away from the sandwich!

    (5)
  • Mitch B.

They can get busy and it can take a little while however the bagels are well worth the wait!

    (5)
  • Tim T.

Bought a dozen mixed bagel collection with veg. cream cheese and we all ( 4 of us ). enjoyed them. I would return any time. Nice friendly service.

  • Sascha B.

Yum! We stopped here twice for breakfast during a weekend in Indian Wells (always like to give our business to the small local places while on vacation!) These guys have fantastic bagels! Chewy, dense, yummy. Plus, I'm pg so I could inhale about 5 at a time.. They have a huge menu board of bagel sandwiches and salads, and hubby had a phenomenal-smelling egg, cream cheese and bacon bagel this morning for just $5. Bagels alone, though, way pricier than if you just grabbed a dozen from Vons: $1.25 each, plus $1.15 more for cream cheese! Two people should not pay $10 for a couple of quick bagels and bagel-shop-grade coffee! And I was dying for lox, but I was not about to spend $9.99 on a lox, cream cheese and tomato sandwich. Hence, the deducted star. But otherwise, very good. Really friendly staff. Cute clean shop, nice outdoor seating in front and back, plus misters running at 80-degree 10 am! If only they'd toss some caraway seeds on those everything bagels and they'd be set...

    (4)
  • Sage P.

Fresh baked bagels and homemade spreads. They have a really varied selection of bagels as well as bagel sandwiches. The sandwiches are a tad overpriced though (9.99 for Lox and cream cheese). Suuuuper fast service and tasty. If they added wifi, I would be here every morning to start work. I hope they are reading this...

  • Mike S.

This restaurant is frequented by locals and out-of-town visitors. The staff and especially the owner and his wife are great people. The restaurant is very clean and always has a positive energy. The location is great too. Very central in Palm Desert. The coffee tastes great, especially the Dark brew. And the bagels are awesome, especially the super jalapeno and the everything Bialy.

    (5)
  • Mike G.

Only the best in town. And the selection for bagels and different types of cream cheese are out of this world!!

    (5)
  • Sarah S.

I got the onion bagel and cream cheese sandwich, which came with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. The sandwich had really fresh ingredients and was really tasty.

    (4)
  • Amy W.

This was a great choice for a quick breakfast on the way out to Joshua Tree. We both got a bagel sandwich, mine, salad, my husband, the lox. We were both pleased with the quality and price of the food. The bagels were so good!

    (4)
  • Michael G.

Bagels are really good. But I think it's awefull that the coffee is almost as much as the bagel

    (4)
  • Julie G.

We love this place for an easy morning breakfast. The coffee is flavorful. We have never been disappointed.

    (5)
  • Alex M.

The quality of the food was very good. I wouldn't say that the bagels are quite NYC quality (being from NJ), but they make a good bagel and lox sandwich.

    (4)
  • Rob H.

    expensive.........good bagels and cofeee....

    (4)
  • Ricky S.

I had a breakfast bagel with eggs cheese and bacon- it was served piping hot and they didn't skimp on the bacon like many places do. The jalapeno 'super bagel' was fresh and tasty, as were the other bagels I sampled. The line was a bit long and the air inside the dining room was a bit warm and stuffy on a recent Saturday morning, but the line moved pretty quickly and NY Bagel offers outdoor sidewalk seating, so that's not much of a complaint. Good stuff!

    (4)
  • Elo B.

This place is SO good. I used to work up the street and we would rush over there on our morning break to grab a bagel or snack. They are fresh and soft and.....now I want one...

    (5)
  • Mike F.

Well I have to rate this a 5 star because I know the owner. Great person that knows quality and customer service. Breakfast bagels are good especially on a jalepeno bagel, but sandwiches are ok.

    (5)
  • Steve S.

first and foremost - this is NOT A DELI. its a bagel shop, that has a few bagel sandwiches. i called and asked "is this a full service deli" and was greeted with a cheery "yes". when i walked in and saw a bagel shop (after driving across town) i was a bit miffed. at that point, I wasn't driving any further and we ate there. the bagels themselves are quite good, but the yelp reviews (the one about knowing the owner is a joke) and the counter help are a bit misleading.
